When james graham watches documentaries about World War II, he often wonders, "Where are the black faces?" It's a legitimate question. If the contribution of black servicemembers in World War II is discussed at all, the focus almost always is on the Tuskegee Airmen or the Army's 92nd Division and 761st Tank Battalion. Less known is the USS Mason (DE-529) - the first Navy ship to have a predominantly black crew.
