On May 12, 2006, a therapeutic horse-riding pilot program for amputees at Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC), Washington, D.C., was initiated at Fort Myer, Va. The "soldiers helping soldiers" concept was used with volunteers from the Caisson platoon. Volunteers are trained and supervised by certified therapeutic riding instructors from the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA).
