A NATO air strike campaign launched from March 2011 to October 2011 decimated much of the Libyan military's force structure. Air strikes initially took out air defense systems to allow NATO to enforce a no-fly zone, though additional strikes targeted the entire spectrum of Col. Muammar al-Qadhafi's war machine under the auspices of U.N. Resolution 1973. It is difficult at this time to determine the precise type and number of systems from the Qadhafi regime that remain operational.
