The president is the nominal commander in chief of the armed forces. The Ministry of Defense is headed by a Minister for Defense, who is assisted by the Second Minister and Minister of State, with the executive arm of the ministry headed by the Permanent Secretaries. The Permanent Secretary (Defense) is responsible for defense and security policy coordination.
