Accurate knowledge of transistor noise parameters is essential to the design of low-noise amplifiers (LNAs). Fortunately, that mainstay of high-frequency measurements—the spectrum analyzer— can be used in conjunction with a programmable impedance tuner from Focus Microwaves (Ville St. Laurent, Quebec, Canada) to effectively and accurately measure the four noise parameters of RF and microwave transistors.
