Building the Haystack: A Look at Colby-Sawyer College's Digital Library

With seven name changes and a varied institutional history as a secondary school, junior college, and four-year institution, Colby-Sawyer College has a rich and complicated history. In 2007, the Cleveland Colby Colgate Archives decided that the best way to present that complex history was virtually and began a small digitization project. The result of this project was the Digital Newspaper Database,1 an online database that makes the college's student newspapers full-text searchable. Once this project was successfully completed, the Cleveland Colby Colgate Archives began a full-scale digitization project, developing its new digital library, Haystack, which would showcase Colby-Sawyer College's archives collections.
