In vacuum induction melting, with a frequent need for a melt-ing furnace change in case of an alloy change or for relining, the required time to perform a furnace change takes up valuable production time. In conventional vacuum chamber type furnaces, the hot furnace change time ranges from 8 to 24hrs depending on the furnace size and construction. Only a small number of furnaces use a second furnace body, attached to a second chamber door. Such furnaces may allow a furnace change in one hour.
