Years ago, we received an order to produce a critical metal stamping for a medical device. We built a simple progressive pierce and blank die plus a few secondary dies for coining and qualification. The approach was not unusual. For products that haven't yet gained maturity, it's advisable to build pre-production tools for ease of refinement and build the tools rather quickly. The problem with this product is that it never matured. We're still making changes.
