Because the standard electrode potential of nickel is relatively positive to that of iron, nickel has been widely used as a protective coating material for steel. There have been successful studies at further improving the corrosion resistance of the nickel coatings by alloying them with suitable metals. Investigations have also been made into the addition of chromium, zinc, copper, molybdenum, iron, tin, manganese, etc., to nickel plating baths.
