If there is a problem with a cylinder it is generally with the door. Barrel door fastening devices in this industry began with cam locks as door locking devices using Lucite or Plexiglas as the material of choice. It was clear as glass and drilled superclean holes ... but it had some limitations. It was brittle and, if dropped, cracked. Plus, it softened when heated over 150℉. As platers began using cleaners that worked best between 160 and 180℉, a better, more stable, and durable material had to be found.
