In the past 10 years car manufacturing has had a great evolution to satisfy continued customer requests and also to meet new legislation. The future challenge of the years 2000 to 2005—expect even more severe limits of emissions and lower fuel consumption. This will mean a big impact on the materials to be used in car manufacturing, which will have as a priority the reduction of the weight of car bodies. At Ferrari, aluminum is mainly used for engine parts. Series 6000 aluminum alloys are used for hoods and door panels on the F5550 Maranello and F456M models.
