If you were to review an article written on powder coating materials in 1990, you would find a comment that the use of powder coatings grew at a compounded 20% growth rate for the decade of the 1980s and that the combination of environmental, operational, quality, and cost advantages would continue to propel their growth through the 1990s. Now, with hindsight on the 1990s, we can see that the prediction was on target with growth being approximately 12% average per annum. In 1990 the total North American market for powder coatings was about 120 million pounds. By the turn of the century demand will be between 315 and 320 million pounds. While the percentage growth may have slowed, due to the impracticality of continuous geometric progressions, actual annual demand almost tripled in the 1990s.
