Recycling of nonhazardous industrial paint sludge, nonreusable leftover latex paint, and similar materials

Industrial paint sludge, water treatment sediment, leftover latex paint, and other chemically similar materials are typically considered wastes; however, such wastes can be used as substitute raw materials in the manufacturing of paint or other products. For example, about 50% of leftover latex paint can be remanufactured and used in recycled content paint products. The remaining 50% of leftover latex paints, plus industrial paint sludges and water treatment sediments, are routinely disposed of in landfills or incinerators at a high cost and untold future liability. A patented, cost-effective, environmentally friendly recycling option exists for such materials by using them to produce a product referred to as Processed Latex Pigment (PLP) using patented manufacturing methods. Manufacturers of portland cement use PLP. Portland cement is the glue that holds together the components of concrete. Since 1995, 28,000 tons of materials that otherwise may have been disposed of in landfills have been recycled at facilities in California, Minnesota, and Ohio.
