Surviving the Chinese Economic Tsunamic Tsunami

Metal finishing job shops, suppliers, and manufacturers are drowning in an ocean of imports from China. Customers of job shops are disappearing due to their manufactured products being sold at unbelievably low prices by Chinese producers. Initial attitudes concerning the Chinese items were that their significantly lower prices would reflect low quality, poor delivery, and be restricted to large quantity orders. Thus far, our perception has been proved wrong. Generally, quality has been good, delivery reasonable, and smaller orders usually accepted. This experience is in sharp contrast to the start-up experiences with other Asian countries, e.g. Taiwan, Korea, and Japan, which matched their low prices with initial exports of poor quality and long delivery times.
