Handle with Care

摘要

In many, if not most applications, the surface roughness or topography of titanium and its alloys is critical. This overview reports quantitative data on the effect of various forms of mechanical finishing (with other methods of surface finishing for comparison). It provides an indication of the parameters now used to characterize surface topography. It also indicates the extent to which residual blast media remains on the surface even after simple rinsing and, finally, notes that mechanical finishing can modify the metallurgical composition of the surface and modify corrosion resistance.
