Environmental Compliance Impacts China Job Shops

In the midst of a severely depressed manufacturing industry, which includes surface finishing job shops as an important segment, the environmental compliance industry is flourishing. U.S. job shops are shutting down, merging to prevent bankruptcy, and sinking into extinction as a result of the Chinese economic tsunami. While this contraction is going on, the environmental compliance industry is hiring people to enforce both new regulations and an increasing strictness in existing regulations and reporting. It is as if they don't live in our country and are detached from the world around them. The ultimate long-term result will be that the compliance industry will force many of its penalty cash cows out of business, leaving virtually nothing left to regulate. Despite this they are operating as short-sighted businesspeople by adding new regulations and paperwork in addition to increasing cash penalties and continuing to build their beaurcracies.
