Although a number of technologies are technically feasible in a range of applications, there are major differences in the economics of control technologies. Differences of more than a factor of 2 in cost are possible in some cases. There may be trade-offs between capital and operating costs. A screening model was developed to assist in the selection of control technologies for specific applications. Case studies indicate that small changes in critical parameters can result in changes in selection of the optimum technology.
