Q: How do you clean spray nozzles? A: Traditionally you "soak 'em and poke 'em." In other words, soak the nozzle in a solvent that will dissolve the deposits that are on the nozzle (BUT NOT THE NOZZLE MATERIAL!) and then scrape away deposits that won't dissolve with some sort of abrasive tool. If you are going to use this approach, use a tool that is softer than the nozzle material. Otherwise, you will score the nozzle orifice. A plastic tie wrap is often used with plastic nozzles. For stainless steel nozzles a brass wire brush is sometimes used. Also use a solvent that won't affect the nozzle material. For example, don't use a caustic solvent with kynar nozzles. However, with polypro nozzles a caustic solvent is usually acceptable. Sometimes a water pik dental cleaner gives good results. Simply direct a stream of water (or other solvent) at the build-up on the nozzle. This will neither score the nozzle nor damage the nozzle material.
