Choosingthe right clients and understanding the Chinese govemmentare amongthe key factors chrome ore sellers need to get to grips with if they hope to succeed in China, one ferro-chrome company has told MB."They need to understand Chinese government policy. In China, we are ruled only by one party. A seller without knowledge of this party's policy - for example, the twelfth five-year plan - is most likely to fail," a Shanghai Topstate official told MB. When it comes to long-term success, marketingtothe right clients is crucial, he added. "They need to choose a client who has their own industry and trading resources, simply because such a client is more resistant to market risk," he said. The official highlighted the differences between the aims and objectives of privately owned ferro-chrome producers and state-owned ferro-chrome producers - a key distinction in China, where so many companies are state-owned.
