Aqua America is a holding company. As of Dec 31 2006, Co.'s subsidiaries operated regulated utilities that provided water or wastewater services to about 2.8 million people in Pennsylvania, Ohio, North Carolina, Illinois, Texas, New Jersey, Florida, Indiana, Virginia, Maine. Missouri, New York and South Carolina, and its key subsidiary, Aqua Pennsylvania, Inc., provided water or wastewater services to about one-half of its customers, located in the suburban areas north and west of the City of Philadelphia and in 23 other counties in Pennsylvania. Co. also provides water and wastewater services through operating and maintenance contracts with municipal authorities and other parties.
