New types of combination threads for elastic bandages

In the English-speaking world, core yarns and core-sheath yarns are frequently referred to as CSY (Core Spun Yarn). The first patent for the production of core yarns was registered in 1932 and initial industrial applications date from 1965. Since 1980, there has been a sharp increase in the uses of core yarns. In the tests subsequently described, the core yams produced utilising rotor spinning were processed into highly elastic bandages. Core spun yarns consist of a core and sheath. Filament yarns or elastic filaments are employed for the core, while the sheath can consist of staple fibres. A differentiation is made between soft and hard core yarns. Soft core yarns contain elastane or semi-elastic fibres such as polybutyleneterephthalate (PBT). Hard core yarns consist of a combination of staple fibres with inelastic filaments, which are used as sewing thread, burnt-out goods, as well as fashion and effect yarns. Virtually any standard staple fibres can be employed in the sheath.
