Compared to other textile sectors, the tufting industry is still a new branch of industry. However, after this manufacturing method had first been introduced in the 1950s, numerous new technologies have been developed. The trend towards structured loop pile carpets, which came up in Europe a few years ago, could only be realised by new developed control and drive systems. For example, conventional mechanical transmissions have been replaced with computer controlled servo motors.
