World textile product businesses including apparel grew 8% in 2007 to a value of US$ 1,150 billion at the manufacturing level. World fiber use in textile products is grew 7% in 2007 to 84 million tons, of which: 55% man-made fibers, 34% cotton, 8% vegetable fibers other than cotton and 2% wool. Fiber use increased 4% annually from 1997 to 2007. All fibers except wool increased. Man-made fibers grew 5% annually. Cotton grew 3% annually. Among man-made fibers, polyester, aramid, carbon, lyocell and elas-tane (spandex) have grown. Viscose staple has staged a comeback. Nylon and polyolefin fibers have plateaued. Acrylic fiber has declined.
