Producing textile fiber from starch -cost-effective and eco-friendly

A research consortium of 4 partners is willing to covert native starch into thermoplastic starch, which can be further processed to textile fibers. The Institute for Textile Technology (ITA) of RWTH Aachen University, Aachen/Germany, which has good competence in polymer processing and textile technology, the Fraun-hofer Institute for Chemical Technology (ICT), Pfinztal/Germany, the producer of biopoly-mer-compounds Tecnaro GmbH, Ilsfeld/Ger-many, and the knitted textile producer WarmX GmbH, Apolda/Germany, are involved in the research project. The consortium has aimed to covert starch into a melt processable polymer and to develop an eco-friendly and solvent-free melt spinning process for the same.
