In contrast to knitting or weaving, only one stitch is "open" at any time in the crochet process. Therefore no drop stitches can occur during crocheting, and the patterning options are almost unlimited, since the crochet hook can be inserted at any point of the previous textile surface and form a new stitch there. All one has to do is cut off the current thread and pull it through the last stitch; then unraveling of the crocheted surface is no longer possible.
