VOYAGES LOINTAINS : FAUT-IL S'ATTENDRE À UNE AGGRAVATION OU À UNE AMÉLIORATION DES MALADIES PRÉEXISTANTES?

L'influence des voyages intercontinentaux sur les personnes souffrant de maladies préexistantes a été évaluée par une étude prospective sur 664 voyageurs ayant l'habitude d'aller dans un pays en voie de développement pour un bref séjour. Parmi la plupart des patients évalués (554), l'état de santé est resté stable (66,8%). Il s'est même amélioré chez quelques-uns (24,9%) et ne s'est que rarement aggravé (2,7%). Toutefois ces aggravations n'ont jamais causé d'inquiétude. Des malades chroniques en état stable ne devraient pas être empêchés de voyager. Une consultation médicale est cependant recommandée, tenant compte des conditions du voyage telles que climat, stress, altitude et hygiène.%The influence of intercontinental travel on persons suffering from pre-existing illness was assessed by a follow-up study which included 664 travellers who went usually for a short stay to a developing country. Among the 554 patients, assessed the physical condition remained mostly unchanged (66,8%), whereas it improved in 24,9%. An aggravation was reported by 2,7% of all travellers ; it was never serious. Chronically ill patients in a stable condition should not be prevented from travelling. A medical consultation, however, is advisable, which has to consider circumstances such as climate, stress, altitude and hygiene.
