Karl Brandt: the Nazi doctor. Medicine and power in the Third Reich

In the 1920s, the German Nazi physician Karl Brandt wanted to help Albert Schweitzer in Lambarene, but he ended up as the most important accused during the Nuremberg doctors' trial after the Second World War and was condemned to death. This intriguing shift persuaded medical historian Ulf Schmidt to try to write a biography, the problem being that little is known about Brandt himself. Schmidt has turned this into an advantage by writing this splendid book on medical thinking and practice in the years 1933-1945, focussing on the medical entourage surrounding Hitler.
