Whistleblowing: a practical guide

This is the second edition of a volume Brian Martin wrote over a decade ago. In that time, the world has changed significantly because of the Internet and social media. Way back then, even the term 'whistleblowing' was somewhat disreputable; now, largely because of increased media interest and a wide variety of public exposures and scandals, attitudes have changed and there is more 'whistleblower legislation'. But has it helped? Martin found that whistleblowers' stories are remarkably similar now to when he wrote the first edition and that they often fall into the same traps and pitfalls, despite the massive increase in information on the web. Whilst Martin says this is not a book about ethics, in this reviewer's mind that is precisely what he provides, applied global ethics: a practical guide to how someone can survive an episode of righteous indignation when, in the public interest, they decide 'up with that I shall not put!'
