Absorbent articles with nonwoven substrates having fibrils have been developed by Procter & Gamble of Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. The fibrils, which generally comprise a lipid ester, extend outwardly from a surface of the fibres. As US Patent 9 205 006 demonstrates, the film-less nonwoven substrate can comprise several nonwoven layers that are bonded to each other using, for instance a calendering bonding process.
