Home-use internet server based on 'Three-player model for internet appliances'

An end-to-end model for information devices, such as a personal computer, cannot be applied in cases where an internet service Is used for home appliances, because home appliances use the internet in a different manner to information devices. To solve this problem, we have developed and tested a prototype for the digital TV domain in which we use a "three-player model," which links and internet service, home appliance, and home-use information device. Our test results show that the three-player model can be applied to a home-use information device connected to the internet to overcome the problems associated with the different protocols used by ordinary home appliances and information devices. We have interposed a server between both the service provider and home-use information device user which supports the functions and operations of both sides.
