Overview of I-mode car navigation system (with small GPS appliance)

The functions increasingly required in the more recent car navigation systems include communication with a central database to retrieve the latest information on such things as facillity/restaurant information and detailed weather or parking lot information (capacity, operating hours, space availability) without having to leave the vehicle. In addition, there is an increasing need for a system that allows the exchange of vehicle and/or position information between navigation systems or between a navigation system and the central database, or the retrieval in realtime of supplementary data that facilitates the application of such information.
