Cyclic oxidation behavior and recrystallization of cold-rolled Ni_3AI foils S.H. Kim

摘要

The floating zone (FZ) method makes it possible to fabricate Ni_3Al thin foils by cold rolling up to 96 percent without any intermediate annealing steps or boron addition. For the practical application of Ni_3 Al foils, oxidation behavior, in addition to mechanical properties, at high temperature should be investigated. The cyclic oxidation properties at 1000 deg C of cold-rolled Ni_3Al foil were investigated, and compared with those of bulk Ni_3Al alloy produced by conventional casting. The Ni_3Al foil exhibited more stable oxidation behavior than the bulk Ni_3Al alloy; in addition, the more stable oxidation behavior of Ni_3Al foil relative to bulk Ni_3A1 alloy was attributable to an abrupt increase of grain boundaries due to recrystallization.
