The development of a new piezoelectric material, 0.5 wt. Percent MnO_2-added (Pb_(0.95)Sr_(0.05))((Zn_(1/3)Nb_(2/3))_(0.20)(Zr_(0.50)Ti_(0.50)_(0.80))O_3 ceramics (PZNST), optimized for use in multilayer piezoelectric transformer application is described. The requirements to such a material are high mechanical quality factor of Q_m, electromechanical coupling factor of k_p, Curie temperature of T_c and low dielectric dissipation factor of tan delta, and at the same time a relative low sintering temperature. The dielectric and piezoelectric properties of the new developed material, PZNST, have been investigated on different sintering temperature (900-1100 deg C). The pure perovskite phase was formed by the columbite precursor method. The optimum values of Q_m, k_p, tan delta, epsilon_r, T_c and d_(33) were 1360, 0.62, 0.002, 1240, 320 deg C and 325 pC/N, respectively, at calcination of 850 deg C and sintering of 1000 deg C temperature.
