Synthesis and luminescent properties of NaZnPO4:Eu3+ red phosphors for white LEDs

A novel NaZnPO4:Eu3+ (NZPO:Eu3+) phosphors were successfully synthesized via solid state reactions for the first time. The XRD analysis confirms that single orthorhombic phase of NZPO was obtained at 850 degrees C for 4 h. In NZPO:Eu3+ phosphor, the F-7(0)-->L-5(6) transitions resulted in the strongest near UV excitation centered at 395 nm and this phosphor shows strong magnetic-dipole transition dominant red emission at 595 nm. The decay lifetime and the CIE coordinate were investigated, respectively. The results suggest that NZPO:Eu3+ red-emitting phosphor was a potential candidate for UV based white LEDs applications.
