Tribological and Mechanical Aspects of Zirconia-Reinforced Aluminum Metal Matrix Composites

摘要

In a quest for weight reduction of engineering components, light weight materials like Alumunium Metal Matrix composites are increasingly gaining importance in industry. However, the scope in the improvement of tribological and mechanical properties of these metal matrix composites have forced the researchers to explore new processing routes and new reinforcing materials. This paper apart from presenting a holistic survey on the effect of Zirconia reinforcement in the Aluminum Metal Matrix composites also discusses the various processing routes for these composites. Furthermore, the effect on various mechanical and tribological properties has been discussed both at micro and nano scale. It is observed that zirconia reinforcement enhances these properties to a considerable level.
