Preparation and Microstructural of Novel Titanium Carbide Obtained by Powder Metallurgy

In the present paper, the focus is on the preparation of titanium carbide from titanium and graphite by using powder metallurgy and study its structural properties. The titanium and graphite were mixed then pressed and heat treated under a flowing argon atmosphere at different temperature and dwelling time. The changes in the phase structure during heat treatment were analyzed by using XRD, SEM and apparent density properties were examined. The results show that titanium carbide were formed at 1200 ℃ for 8 hr with unreacted graphite; XRD was explained the titanium carbide was formed with different of compaction stress. The SEM shows morphology surface of titanium carbide, porosity and graphite. The apparent density increases with increase compaction stress until reach to 255 MPa then was remained constant approximately.
