Tribological Behavior of AA-7068/TiC Metal Matrix Composites

摘要

During this investigation the aluminium alloy (7068) reinforced with Titanium Carbide (TiC) metal matrix composites was developed using stir casting technique with various weight fractions of reinforcement varied from 0 to 10 wt.% in steps of 2 wt.% and the test specimens were preparedas per ASTM standards. The wear behavior was investigated by performing dry sliding test on pin-on-disc tester. The process parameters used are wt.% of TiC, rotational speed (N), sliding velocity (V), and applied load (P). A set of experiments was planned using centralcomposite design (CCD). The tribological behaviors of AA-7068/TiC MMCs were evaluated by measuring wear rate, wear resistance and specific wear resistance. The data collected was statistically analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and a quadratic model has been developed using ResponseSurface Methodology (RSM) in terms of process parameters. The experimental results reveal that the developed model is suitable for prediction of wear rate, wear resistance and specific wear resistance in AA-7068/TiC.
