Comparison between oriented strand boards and other wood-based panels for the manufacture of furniture

The use of oriented strand boards (OSB) is relatively uncommon in the design of furniture. Yet, their excellent mechanical perfor-mance, especially with regard to bending, could make them an ideal material for certain applications. In this study, experiments were carried out to compare OSB panels with other wood-based panels, widely used in the furniture industry, such as medium-density fibre-board and particle boards, as regards to their resistance to bending, the defects that appear as a result of the application of the coating, their economic costs and their aesthetic properties.
