13th Professors' Conference with excursion of the Ziegel Zentrum Süd

The annual professors' conference of the Ziegel Zentrum Süd e.V. (ZZS) this year led professors of architecture and building engineering from all over Germany to the brick-red north of Germany. At the HafenCity University in Hamburg on 21 September, they first discussed various approaches to residential building before the subsequent three-day excursion through Hamburg, Bremen and Lübeck to current and completed residential and town development projects supplied ample matter for suggestions and lively discussion (Fig. 1). Current relation to the conference location and its history is the basis for the professors' conference of the ZZS every year, although they are also concerned with relevant subjects today. The conference therefore started with outstanding Hamburg brick buildings from the years 1890 to 1930, which still count as exemplary today. Then they came right up to date with the prize-wining architecture of a visitor centre, various approaches to urban housing and an ecumenical meeting centre in the centre of Berlin. A lecture about cost drivers in residential building then led to a lively exchange of opinions.
