This report analyses the books and publishing industry in Germany. For the purposes of the study, book sales have been broken down in two main ways, as follows: 1. Hardback, paperback and electronic; 2. Fiction and non-fiction. The market is measured in terms of retail sales (sales direct to consumers) and institutional sales (sales direct to educational establishments, libraries and other largely private organisations). New book sales only are included and, as such, second-hand and antiquarian book sales are excluded.
