The first molecularly engineered boat that is claimed to be the largest structure built with nano-enhanced materials has demonstrated outstanding fuel efficiency whilst completing its sea trials. After six months of extensive testing, the 16.45m Piranha completed its final sea trial last month, an approximately 600 nautical mile rough weather sea test off the shores of Washington and Oregon in the USA. Nano-enhanced products manufacturer Zyvex Technologies of Ohio USA said that a conventional aluminium or fiberglass boat would have consumed 50 gallons or more per hour at cruise speed, while test results proved that Piranha consumed only 12 gallons of fuel per hour while cruising at 25 knots.
