Volga boatmen bring back hydrofoils

Hydrofoil Fast Ferries built in Russia have been a feature of many passenger services around the world. None, however, have been built over the past 20 years but that is about to change with plans to revive the hydrofoil concept with an updated design. The new hydrofoil, the Comet 120M, is being built by the Volga Shipyard in Nizhniy Novgorod, which developed the original hydrofoil designs. Located on the Volga River, this shipyard originally built its hydrofoils to operate along that river back in 1957. However, since the collapse of the old Soviet Union these services have ceased but there are now plans to revive them with the new updated hydrofoil design.
