A mere 24 months after signing the building contract, Merwede Shipyard recently handed over their latest newbuild to Tenix Defence Pty, an Australian defence and technology contractor. The Multi-Role Vessel, named 'HMNZS Canterbury L421' is part of a package deal called "Project Protector" consisting of 4 Inshore Patrol Vessels, 2 Offshore Patrol Vessels and the Multi-Role Vessel L421 itself. Tenix Defence Pty will complete the military outfitting of the vessel at its facilities in Australia and hand the vessel over to the New Zealand Ministry of Defence in January 2007.
