In 1970 Sperry Marine, located in Virginia - USA, decided to transform their Dutch local agent into a full Sperry Marine B.V. location. The office was located in Vlaardingen near the Rotterdam waterways and was populated with some 20 employees.rnThe staff rapidly grew to 150 employees with main activities as sales, field service and military business of navigation equipment in Holland. In 1975 Sperry Marine decided to explore the distribution potential in Holland and set up a European Distribution Center, also located in Vlaardingen. It was soon established as one of the most efficient distribution centers in the world for Sperry Marine, not at least because of the Dutch logistics structure, which had proven to be very efficient. Nearby the Port of Rotterdam, Schiphol and Rotterdam Airport, spare parts were flown across the world in an economic and efficient manner. In the 80's the Distribution center was merged with the sales and service organisation in Vlaardingen. Meanwhile Headquarters in Virginia engineered & manufactured their products, whereby the focus was on innovation and robustness of the products. Typically two drives which were difficult to combine, yet Sperry Marine was able to launch the first touchscreen based radar.
