Offshore wind challenges & chances: Fleet of purpose built vessels needed for installation and maintenance

The offshore wind industry is growing, following political ambitions in Europe, North America, Asia and even East-Africa. If the offshore wind industry is to develop all the wind farms currently planned, it is in urgent need of a whole range of large, purpose built installation vessels. The need for new vessel design doesn't end with installation. Once these wind farms are in use, they will have to be accessed for maintenance. This offers challenges but more importantly brings chances for the maritime and offshore industry.
