The Maritime Research Institute Netherlands (MARIN) is in the closing stages of testing a vertical floating wind turbine. The concept belongs to the Deep Wind project and is led by the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). Vertical float wind turbines are seen as the next step in the development of offshore wind energy. The vertical floating wind turbine consists of a long tube that rotates in the water with a vertical axis rotator at the top, above the water. At the bottom, the tube is fixed at the sea bottom and a generator is based. This technique allows wind energy generation in areas with more wind and space.
