We are all concerned with safety on the work floor, but do we really act accordingly or do we see it as a necessity opposed upon us by rules and regulations? That is the question which many of you should ask yourself. Let's be clear about it: no one wants accidents or injuries to personnel or damage to equipment and a bad reputation. Unfortunately not all of you act accordingly. To make a safety management system work in your organisation, it has to start at the top. If the top management does not set the example and does not support a safety awareness culture it will be a battle that is already lost at the start. A safety culture is not built up overnight. It takes time, effort and money and a clear and consistent system to make it work, but you will soon notice that safety pays. By just avoiding one single accident the investment made in safety awareness pays off easily.
