Early Contamination by Heavy Metals of the Guadalquivir Estuary After the Azalcollar Mining Spill (SW Spain)

The Guadalquivir estuary was impacted by the accidental release of 5 million cubic meter of acid waste from the processing of pyrite ore (25 April 1998). The waste en- tered ecologically sensitive and protected areas such as the National Park of Donana. Here are presented the results Obtained for a time sequence of different sampling sites In the estuary and in the surrounding areas form May to September 1998.
