South Korea has moved back to the top of the international shipbuilding league table. Figures for the end of January this year show South Korea's orderbook totaling 12.4 million cgt compared with Japan's 11.3 million. This is the first time that South Korea has led Japan for some six years. Order input for last year included 12.7 million gt for South Korean yards and 9.7 million gt for Japanese yards. This is the first time in years that Japan's annual input has fallen below the 10 million gt mark. It may not be the last.
