If a Teflon coating prevents your eggs from sticking to a frying pan, would-n't it make sense to use it to prevent marine growth from sticking to your hull? It sure did to coatings manufacturers. Early fouling release coatings used polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), better know as Teflon. Despite its non-stick nature and relative hardness, however, Teflon is actually porous and thus still allowed fouling organisms to establish a mechanical interlock.
